Powerless

Powerless

I wrote a story on a video we watched for work. It is about a man who devoted his life to make a robot. the video and story is below.

Powerless

As I woke, the old, idle door swung closed. I stand up, my legs creak - old with age as I clamber out the door. I stand at the door and gaze out. I see something moving in the distance leaning back and forth. My robot, it's alive! Suddenly what looked like a fairy  flew into the sky. My robot dropped- still as a rock. The gauges drop. Then, the fairies come back and circle the robot. The gauges go up, he wakes and walks to the door I hear a knock and open the door. The robot is alive! I always look back wondering if the fairies made the robot come alive.

The Race

Character Vignette

I wrote a story about a boy who wishes he can race remote control cars. We looked at a photo and had to write a story about the scene.

This is my story :

The Race

It was a cold, foggy morning. we woke up at 5am and went straight to the track. We got there, and Dad ran like a stampede to the bridge and got ready to race.

As I slowly staggered to the fence, I heard it. The hooter blew. My hands grasped the fence as all the rc stock cars went past. The speed of the stock cars blew the leaves up like a kid running away from a great Dane.

I slouched. My dream was to do this, but I was too young. The thought of racing one day gave me goosebumps. I saw a black and green car at the front. Suddenly I realised it was my dad’s car! I was so happy I shouted out to the top of my lungs,
“GO DAD!”

I heard a person from the farmhouse next door,
“BE QUIET I’M TRYING TO SLEEP!” bawled the exasperated farmer.  My head hit the top wire. OUCH! That hurt. I sat down rubbing my head for a while.

Then, the cars were near the finish line. It was a battle against a blue and red car and my dad’s car. They were neck and neck! I recalled my dad putting turbocharger in his stock car. All he needed to do was press a button. I saw my dad’s finger hovering over the button. Suddenly flames started coming out the back! It worked! It zoomed past the finish line! When I walked over it just exploded. My dad couldn’t afford to get another rc car. That was It. I knew it was a risk. I was gutted.

Wonder

Wonder

In our class we have read a book called Wonder. The book is about a boy called August and he has a physical disability with his face. He decides to go to school. He meets three people Charlotte, Julian and Jack. In his class Jack and Julian are being mean. August gets hearing aids. Then Jack then starts being nice to him. Then his dog dies. August goes to camp. They watched the sound of music. At the half break August and Jack saw the toilets were full so they went into the forest. They bumped into some 7th graders and the 7th graders started making fun of them and beat them up. Then Amos came and and punched one of the 7th graders and then ran away with August and Jack. Then August realised that his hearing aids were gone. Everyone went back home. When they got back they found out Julian had left the school. They had a big end of year ceremony and August won an award.

This book is about equality. Not about being mean because somebody has a disability or has learning difficulties or has special needs.

Thank you for reading my book review.

Geometric shapes

This is my geometric shape. We had to use a protractor to find the different degrees of the circle. To find the middle of the circles we measured the length and width then we halved it. Every 20 degrees I measured out of the 360 degrees.

Speech marks

Speech Marks

I wrote a twist on demon dentist and I had to put all the speech marks on each sentence. We had to use either demon dentist or wonder.

This is the story.

“Hello my dear, what is your name?” questioned Miss Root slowly.
“My name is Jeff,” giggled Alfie.
“NO it is Alfie,” SHRIEKED Miss Root. “I have been stalking you!”
“HOW dare you!” shouted Alfie angrily.
“Now let me look at your teeth potato man,” demanded Miss Root.
“NO,” Alfie said as he slowly walked towards the door.
He opened the door and ran to his flying potato and zoomed off to the Uncle Bills to by a broomstick to hit her in the face.

Question

I had to create a question about my topic of olives and then put it on to Voki.

Starry Night Art.

This is a blog post about my starry night art. We got a piece of black paper and drew a landscape with a large tree in the foreground. The we got two paints and started double dipping. Double dipping is when you put two paints on the brush. We did small strokes with a paint brush for the hills and dots for the sky.

Quick Write Photo

ManuelToribio-THE%20FLIGHT[1].jpg

Quick Write Photo

We wrote a quick write about a photo of
a person who was diving off a wharf in Auckland.
This photo won the Auckland competition.
We used this photo because it has a mix of different things and we would get lots of ideas

The waves lap against the rocking jetty. There are boats, buoys, and the water taxi is speeding across to the North Shore. As a storm is brewing, I am bracing for the jump.

My heart, pounding as I leap into the air. I feel free as if I can fly. I feel the sea spray shooting at my face.
I soar, fly, sail.

Everybody is watching, waiting for a splash. Then I plummet. I feel the waves rock me up and down and I see my pants floating. Luckily they were facing out to sea not at the  wharf. As quick as a flash I pull them back on and climb on the wharf.

foul shot

Screenshot 2015-05-19 at 10.00.55 AM.png

Foul Shot

This is a blog post about my story. We based it off the story foul shot which was in a basketball match with 5 seconds left. We used things like verbs, 2 stanzas one about you and one about the equipment and we had a new action every line.

Foul Shot

With only 10 seconds left of the game,
And a solemn boy dribbling the ball,
Running,
Dribbling,
Comes into the D
Comes up to take a shot,

Breathes,
Crouches,
Lines his shoulders up,
Then smash!
The ball soars,
Flies,
Sails,
Floats like it’s in slow mo,
Plays it coy,
The crowd is silent,
And then
                            and then
                                                        and then,
It ricochets the goalie ……

And GOAL!

He runs and high- fives everybody.

The Unknown Soldier

This is my story to the unknown soldier. We had to add short sentences and have a good opener sentence. The unknown soldier is a dead person who is in a tomb in Wellington.

Dear Unknown soldier,
I am writing to you because I want you to know that we remembered you on 25th  of April at the Havelock North Cenotaph. I thank you for serving for the ANZACS. Right now I am unlike you were 100 years ago. I am safe, free, happy and chatting to my friends in my warm classroom.

How did you feel when you went to war? We had heard how you thought you were going on an adventure but ended up in this hot, dry Egypt then to Gallipoli to your death .

Were the uniforms really heavy? We heard about having 30 kilos on your back and your gun. You must have been very sweaty!

What went through your mind when you shot someone? Did you feel powerful or did you cry in dismay?

Thank you for reading this message you will never be forgotten.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Anzac biscuits

                                         Anzac Biscuits

Below is my post about Anzac Biscuits.
Anzac biscuits were eaten in world war I.  They were sealed tight in a metal tin to keep crisp while being shipped in a navy ship. They were always hard when they arrived so the soldiers broke them and made porridge.

How to make Anzac Biscuits

150 g flour
90 g rolled oat
85 g desiccated coconut
165 g brown sugar
125 g butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2 tablespoons of water

Preheat the oven to 160c or 140c fan forced. line two baking trays with non-stick baking paper. sift the flour into a large bowl. Stir in the oats, coconut and brown sugar.

Put the butter, golden syrup and water into a small saucepan. Stir over a medium heat until melted. Stir in the bicarbonate of soda.

Pour the butter mixture into the flour mixture and stir until combined.

Roll level tablespoons of mixture into balls. Place on the trays about 5 cm apart.

Press with a wooden spoon to flatten slightly. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Set aside on the trays for five minutes, then transfer to a wire rack so it cools completely.

This recipe makes about 24.

my favourite place

This is my a story about my favourite place which is in Napier. I go there every Saturday.

N.S.C, Napier

When I am rigging on the shore, I wonder, wait, to see what today will be like.
As we sail out on the glistening water, I watch boats coming in and out of the channel.
Once we are out on the sea, I pull on my mainsheet and start hiking to get all the power out of the yacht then speed out to west shore and all of a sudden…
I tack and sail further and further out to sea. As we are sailing, I smell the stinky motor of the RIB and quickly get on the other side of the RIB away from the smell.

When we sail in, I pull up the daggerboard and feel sad to be sailing in back to shore.
